The Walter A. Lohman Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of Walter Lohman. Thanks to the generous donation of Shirley Lohman, starting in 2026, and continuing for the next 5 years, a $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who will be pursuing a career in education or teaching.
Walter Arnold Lohman, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born in 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Walter H. Lohman and Marjorie J. Lohman. Walter’s early years were spent on the family farm in the 1950s, where he helped raise Angus and Charolais cattle with his parents and two brothers. The farm and land held a special place in Walter's heart and had a lifelong hold on him as a farmer.
Walter proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Air Force Aviation Cadet Program from 1960 to 1962. After his service, he pursued higher education, earning a teaching degree from Racine-Kenosha Teacher’s College, followed by a BA and Master's degree in Education from Brigham Young University in Utah. It was there Walter formed lasting friendships that remained important to him throughout his life.
As an educator, Walter dedicated many years to teaching at Clarendon Elementary in Mukwonago, Wisconsin and New Berlin Center in New Berlin, Wisconsin. He made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students. Walter later married Shirley Lohman (nee Dahle), with whom he shared 53 years of love and companionship.
Walter was an active member of the Waukesha community, participating in many organizations, including the Waukesha Masonic Lodge #37, Ivanhoe Commandery, Scottish Rite Valley of Milwaukee, York Rite, Tripoli Shrine, Hillbilly’s, Royal Order of Jesters #101, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, Mukwonago American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Walter is survived and deeply loved by his wife, Shirley Lohman; his brother, Alan (Judith) Lohman; and the late Keith (Romayne) Lohman. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Charles (Kathleen) Dahle; sister-in-law, Sandy Fisher; nieces Jennifer (Dean) Lohman-Peterson and Elizabeth (Chris) Gallagher; and nephews Scott (Rachel) Lohman, Chris (Leann) Lohman, and Andrew Lohman. Walter is also remembered by many other relatives and cherished life-long friends who were an important part of his life.
Walter will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, service, and community involvement will be cherished by many.
